From the tallest man to the fastest time to enter a suitcase or most weight held by nipples, the Guinness Book of World Records seemingly has it all. And that includes an Edina man who is making a run for the record for longest time supporting his body weight in the plank position.

Jim Ogg, a retired architect/former Marine/marathoner, remained in the position for 50 minutes and 8 seconds in October. Guinness Word Records is currently adjudicating Ogg's feat.

You don’t need to be the next Larry Bird to compete in TreeHouse’s second annual Hoopin It Up For Hope free throw tournament series. Even if your shot isn’t on target, the cause is.

TreeHouse, an Edina-based non-profit organization aiming to support and transform at-risk teens, is using this event as an opportunity for people to raise money and awareness for teenagers who are facing difficult times, including issues such as depression, bullying, sexual promiscuity, substance abuse and anger.

When I first met with Susan Smith of Edina Federated Women’s Club, I was armed with a little background information on the group, and with a bit of information on what they had accomplished since that rather plucky gal, Jane Cunningham Croly, gathered a group of women together back in 1890. But after I spent an hour with Smith at a local coffee shop, I was impressed…and inspired.

Boy, I thought to myself, these women really prove the old adage that there is power in numbers. And they show just how powerful and productive women really are.
