Egghead by Kimber Fiebiger was first displayed in Edina three years ago at Grandview Square Park. After a year, the sculpture shaped like Humpty Dumpty reading a book was switched out to make room for another sculpture. However, the neighborhood wanted Egghead back.
Dick Crockett of the Edina Community Foundation was on a mission to make this happen. Crockett says that he enjoys the sculpture because he likes the idea of taking a literary character and putting it in a new situation. He wanted to have the piece funded by people in the neighborhood. With the help of donations from the Edina Senior Center, Grandview Square Neighborhood Association, Public Art Edina, Friends of the Edina Library and from Crockett and his wife, the sculpture is back in its place in Edina.
Community members are excited about its return. “Egghead is disarmingly sweet and loveable and has an endearing personality,” Audrey Kramer says. “He is a fellow to be admired: modeling the joy of reading.”
