We regularly feature photo submissions from our Images of Edina photo contest in the pages of Edina Magazine and online. This month, we asked photographer Lisa Rose to tell us about her photo titled “Taking Flight.”
Where was the photo taken?
I captured the photo at 50th & France during the Edina Art Fair.
What inspired the shot?
When I am behind the lens, I see unique inspiration in all things -- whether they are common objects, a lovely landscape, majestic architecture or works of art. A construction site might not be considered a typical photo-worthy shot, yet when I applied a minimalistic approach with an angle and noticed the clouds, I imagined the building taking flight!
What’s your favorite thing about this image?
“Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious and adding the meaningful,” [according to] John Maeda. I enjoyed the simplicity of the shot in addition to how the clouds symbolized the take-off of a new building and a new feature at 50th & France.
What type of camera do you use?
I use a Canon Rebel.
Do you typically take photos like this or is this out of the norm for you?
I enjoy capturing a variety of architectural, nature, and minimalistic shots.
What prompted you to submit your photo to Images of Edina?
I am honored that this is my 4th win in the annual Images of Edina contest, and it’s my 6th photography contest win.
What tips would you offer others considering submitting their photos to contests like ours?
Take risks and capture what catches your eye!
