Gone to Dust is the first novel by Emmy-winning television writer and former Edina resident Matt Goldman. And this thrilling whodunit is set, for the most part, in Edina.
The novel follows private detective Nils Shapiro as he investigates a case that is far from ordinary. A murder has taken place and the scene of the crime is covered in vacuum cleaner dust. With overwhelming forensic evidence on their hands, Shapiro and the Edina police department are put to the test.
Goldman moved to Edina in 2000. His children graduated from Edina High School and he remembers his neighbors fondly.
“Edina is—and I mean this as a compliment—a fairly idyllic place,” Goldman says, “When I started the book, there hadn’t been a murder there in 10 years.” Goldman chose Edina as the setting for his crime novel for exactly this reason.
Gone to Dust is a story with a strong sense of place. Minnehaha Creek, the Edina Grill and Perkins on 50th are all found between the pages—a special treat for locals to enjoy. “Edina and Minneapolis are additional characters in the book,” Goldman says. These are characters with rich histories and plenty of their own stories to tell.
