We regularly feature photo submissions from our Images of Edina photo contest in the pages of Edina Magazine and online. This month, we asked Molly Andresen, a photographer with a small business focused on families and weddings, to tell us about her photo titled Basketball at Cornelia Field Day.
Where was the photo taken?
Cornelia Elementary School at field day.
What inspired the shot?
I was helping with the basketball and hula-hoop stations at field day ... I grabbed my camera and tried to get some fun angles of my son on the basketball court. It was a beautiful spring day with a bright blue sky, so I wanted to capture that in the photo as well. I got down low under the basket and kept shooting up to capture my son and the sky together in the shot.
What’s your favorite thing about this image?
I love the blue sky background, and I also love how the angle of the photo makes my young son look like he is jumping up so high in the sky. I also think it has a nostalgic feeling of being carefree and playing outside with friends in elementary school.
What tips would you offer others considering submitting their photos to contests like ours?
Bring your camera and take photos when you’re out in the community! There are so many great events and places and everyday moments to take photos of in Edina, so grab your camera and capture what makes you happy!
