Frank and Bell Barr of Edina combine their talents to create magical faerie homes using materials such as clay, copper and steel.
Their creative vision came to life in 1998 when Frank decided to leave his nine-to-five job behind.
“Frank has always liked miniature things, like model railroading and I always thought I was a faerie, I just got a human body this time,” says Bell.
Because of restrictions on gatherings set by the governor due to the pandemic, many art fairs and festivals have had to cancel this year. However, that didn’t hinder the Barrs from making the most of summer by finding alternative ways of connecting with the community. On what was originally scheduled to be the opener of the well-known and loved Edina Art Fair, they held a sale in their backyard. Many faithful customers came to select a colorful creation of the Barrs.
“We’ve also created a class where a bunch of friends come over and glaze/design their own faerie houses in our backyard. Everyone is safe creating a faerie house for themselves or as a homemade gift. Plus, it was a nice way to enjoy the Minnesota summer,” says Bell.
To support artists during this difficult time, the Barrs recommend checking out the websites of your local favorites and see if they have any sales or offer curbside pickup.
