Allan Law was snoozing in his van early one summer morning. Law works late nights and had pulled into the parking lot of an Edina church for a quick nap before heading back to work. A rap on his window woke him and he found himself staring up at a police officer. The officer checked Law’s driver’s license and asked why he was sleeping in a parking lot just a few miles from his Edina home. Law, a captivating storyteller, explained his current vocation: delivering sandwiches to the homeless and hungry in the Twin Cities. When fifth-grader Rebecca Ohaeri ran out of books she wanted to read, she started to write her own story. Now a senior at Edina High School, Ohaeri has one self-published novel under her belt, and a trilogy underway.

What happens when a longtime Edina resident combines two medieval Scottish sporting traditions on one backyard pond hockey rink? The answer is ice bowling—a sporting event that entertains 20 to 30 men on any given winter Wednesday night in Edina.
   
Jeff Ryan refers to these weekly ice bowling get-togethers as “IBOLD”: the ice bowling organization for lonely dads. “The name could also stand for, ‘I be old,’ ” jokes Ryan. Thanks to a locally devised and produced Android and iPhone application, sightseeing with your kids will never be the same. On a trip to Europe last summer, Mitch Zamoff asked his three kids to share their favorite part about Rome.
   
“They told me it was the gelato they had,” Zamoff chuckles. “My wife and I looked at each other and thought, we could have done that at the Dairy Queen.”
